NewTek has announced the latest addition to its TriCaster family: the TriCaster Mini. Promoted as “the most complete and compact multimedia studio in world,” the TriCaster Mini lets you create, share and live stream professional content, from any location and with any experience. Designed to meet the growing need for visual communication, the TriCaster Mini makes it easy to produce video interviews, webcasts, and presentations that mix slides, clips, and graphics. It can be set in a matter of minutes, and lets you stream your show to the Web, record footage for later editing, and publish content directly to popular social media sites—all from a unit small enough to fit inside a backpack.

With four HDMI inputs, the TriCaster Mini lets you input up to 1080p video from readily available cameras such as GoPros, DSLRs, or handheld camcorders, with plug-and-play ease. You can also bring in two live sources from devices on the Wi-Fi network, including your computer, USB webcams, or even content from wireless iOS devices. Two primary HDMI outputs on the front of the unit let you send the Program output with audio to external devices, while video-only DVI and HDMI display outputs are also available, useful for on-location feed monitors or projectors.

The TriCaster Mini comes in two flavors: the HD-4i and the HD-4. The two models are nearly identical, with the HD-4i adding a built-in 7″ display used for monitoring the Program, Preview, or individual source signal output. For multi-view display and to view the user interface, an external monitor must be connected via HDMI or DVI. The TriCaster Mini uses the same intuitive and fully featured control software as other professional TriCaster Models, and letting you switch easily between sources, build video playlists, add graphics and titles, and mix audio. It also comes loaded with more than 30 HD live virtual sets to replace a green-screen background.

The other difference between the HD4-i and HD-4 is internal storage. The HD-4i has two 750GB internal hard drives that can store around 30 hours of 1080i footage, with support for up to four input or output signals to be recorded simultaneously. The HD-4 features a single 750GB hard drive that can store around 15 hours of 1080i footage, and requires an external storage drive to be attached via USB 3.0, to take advantage of four-channel source recording.

Live streaming is available at resolutions up to 720p, with presets provided for the most commonly used streaming profiles. The TriCaster Mini also makes it easy to publish your recorded content straight to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or a website.

Both the HD-4 and HD4-i are available at discounted prices for accredited educators, and come bundled with LiveText and Virtual Set Editor software. Available accessories include a new Control Surface for the TriCaster Mini, and a 4-pack of 30m HDMI cables for venues that require more distance between cameras and the switcher. Whether you’re new to video production, an experienced professional, or simply looking to produce high-quality content without a studio worth of equipment, then the TriCaster Mini is definitely worth considering.
